Catch Weight
What Are Catch Weight Products?
Catch weight products are items that vary in weight despite being sold in approximate quantities. Common examples include cheeses, meats, and other products where exact weights cannot be guaranteed.
How to List Catch Weight Products
When listing products with variable weights:
- Mark the product as “catch weight” in your inventory settings
- List the product with a standard reference weight (e.g., 500g)
- Set your pricing per reference unit (e.g., ÂŁ10 per 500g)
Handling Orders: Step-by-Step Example
Customer order: 2 units of cheese at ÂŁ10 per 500g (expected total: 1000g)
Your process:
- Prepare the order aiming for the requested 1000g
- After cutting, you have 1100g of product
- Record the catch weight in the market cycle actions (1100g)
- Invoices will automatically be updated with a price to reflect the actual weight: ÂŁ22 (at ÂŁ10 per 500g)
